(high 101, low 58)
Drove east to two national parks today, Arches and Canyonlands. Another very beautiful bright sunny day. If you suffer SAD like I do, this is a place to be. The relative flatness of this area enables one to see vehicles driving on roads 5 miles away. Sure can't do that in New York state! The roads are quite straight, the scenery little rolling mounds, flatlands, and an occasional cutout where a stream must run when there is rain(?) or snow melt, replicas of river canyons on a small version, maybe 6 feet deep. And, of course, the wonderful rock formations.
This is still high desert, elevation about 5000 ft, spotted with sage and other desert plants. We saw our first cacti.
We took over 300 pictures today...wait! I'm not going to inundate you with them all. It's just everywhere you looked the scenery was stunning, similar but different.
This is the view from our campsite.
In Arches National Park, we saw, of course, arches, rock formations, an old ranch, twisted trees that I loved, and flowers. Some of the rock formations had names, such as the three gossips...
the Balanced Rock...
the North Window...
the South Window......
Delicate Arch...
Fred found some prime real estate that he put a bid on...
Unique vehicles pop up everywhere...
There were many, many rock formations, each one so different...
They call this type of rock fins.
A delightful picnic area...
