Utah State Fair

Sunday, September 13, 2009

We certainly got our hours in at the Family History Library, finding new info was really cool. Even Fred got quite a bit of new info on his English lines. Now to get it all entered and digested!

About 1 p.m., Fred, Laura, Doreen and I headed out to the Utah State Fair which was right next door to the campground. Utah has about 2 million people and the fair was about a little smaller than the Dutchess county fair. There were rides which we skipped, there were games of chance which we skipped, actually the State of Utah got admission fees and some $ for food out of us, that was it!

Here are some pigs and goats for Heidi.

Had to show you this dumpster, it said, "Manure only, no garbage".
I must say it's the neatest fair I've seen, the animals were well-picked up after.

All these items were made by 4-H kids, aren't they terrific?

We wanted to see the bear show but missed it. But here are Fred and Ginger, two 6-year old Grizzly siblings, visiting with the crowd.

Fear not, we have the car of the day for y'all...

...and a critter for Amy!

Back into the exhibits by adults...

A sculpture using 700 pounds of butter.

A baby, doesn't it look real?

And the show stopper!

Isn't this an awesome painting?

Here are more stunning paintings.

And these two by 15 year olds.

I really loved this sculpture.

And then my battery ran out.

Another building held very beautiful handwork, quilts, tatting, croching, knitting, lace, weaving, etc. Sadly, no battery. We left the exhibits and made the 8 p.m. bear show. As a reminder to all, the commentators told us never to feed wild bears as they then become nuisance bears and must be put down.

Tomorrow will be a driving day, leaving our new "best" friends behind. snif!
