Pike's Peak

(high 74, low 49 at campsite)

Today we took the cog wheel train to the top of Pike's Peak. The train went from 6570' to 14,110' in over an hour. Sadly, it did not stop anywhere and pictures were hard to take. The summit was all socked in with fog, and we couldn't see anything but other train riders and snow. Yesterday, the Peak got 4" of snow. The temperature at the summit was 31 degrees with a wind chill making it 27 degrees. We saw some marmots but had difficulty getting a picture. We were seated in the middle of the train and it's movement hindered us. Hope you enjoy these pictures.

Pike's Peak is in the center of the picture, in the low area. It is a high peak behind the clouds.

At the Cog Train ticket booth we saw some Navy men marching by in yellow shirts and singing naval songs.

Views on the way up the mountain...

At the top...

The cities and towns waaaayy below...

We got to see a few marmots and finally capture one...

The bare rocks in the middle of the picture are where the mountain lions can sometimes be seen sunning themselves.

The aspen trees are a delicious shade of yellow this time of year.

Down again where there is warmth and flowers in bloom!
